ITV CORONATION STREET RESIDENT STUNNED AS VILLAIN'S RETURN 'SEALED' IN NEW UPDATE

Coronation Street is set for explosive scenes next week as one resident is left shocked to learn that a villain could be returning.

Earlier this year, teenagers Dylan and schoolmate Mason bullied Maria Connor's son Liam, who contemplated ending his own life in heartbreaking scenes. Things took an even more disturbing turn when it was revealed to a shocked Gary and Maria that Mason had even threatened Liam with a knife.

After the shock bombshell, Gary and Maria took Liam to the police station, where he reported the incident. Later, the police called at Sean's home, saying they had reason to believe Dylan was hiding a zombie knife that was used in an assault but the knife couldn't be found. Dylan, who had been hiding the knife for Mason, lied pretending he knew nothing about it and later Mason ordered Dylan to get the knife and meet up with him.

However, it was another one of Mason's evil tactics as when a nervous Dylan waited, PC Craig Tinker approached, finding the knife in his bag and arresting him on the spot. During Dylan's court hearing, he pleaded guilty to carrying a knife in a public place and he was handed a community service order. Meanwhile, Mason received a prison sentence.

In spoilers for next week, Maria is left stunned to get a letter saying Mason is due to be released from prison. Ever the doting mum, Maria heads to the police station to ask some questions and find out if Mason is at risk of returning to the cobbles. However, Maria gets more than she bargains for when she spots husband Gary at the police station with Sarah Platt providing bank statements. As Gary comes out of the interview room, Maria demands to know what is going on.

Soap fans will recall that Gary attacked villain Nathan Curtis earlier this after his return left Bethany Platt terrified. After Nathan realised someone close to Bethany assaulted him, he blackmailed Bethany's mum Sarah. She offered to pay him off with £2,000 to keep him quiet and told him to go. But he demanded £10,000 instead, and when Bethany found out she ended up having a showdown with her mum, realising Gary helped pay him off. Nathan has since been framed for Lauren Bolton's murder despite it really being Joel Deering.

Gary meanwhile was fearing partner Maria was going to find out the truth about what he did, after their recent rocky patch. They almost split after he got cosy with ex Sarah again, and have only just decided to make a go of things. But how will Maria react to finding out Gary attacked someone and was there for Sarah once more, never mind the money twist?
