PRINCESS ANNE'S HILARIOUS RESPONSE WHEN TEENAGE ZARA TINDALL REVEALED SURPRISE PIERCING

Teenagers are famous for pushing at their boundaries - and adolescent royals are certainly no exception. In 1998 a then 17-year-old Zara got her tongue pierced which caught headlines and had parents of teens nodding their heads in recognition at her rebellion.

It was during her time at Gordonstoun, the boarding school in Scotland where many members of the Royal Family were educated, that she plucked up the nerve to go for it.

She was then spotted with the silver stud in her tongue during her uncle King Charles's 50th birthday party To be a fly on the wall when she revealed the new piece of mouth jewellery to her mum Princess Anne.

Well thanks to an unearthed interview with Zara, now 43, we kind of can be. No-nonsense Princess Royal had a typically straight-talking way of dealing with the situation.

In 2011 Zara told Tatler magazine: "At least I didn't have it coming out of my nose, or anything."

It was also reported that the Princess Royal was "unfazed by [Zara's] shocking new look, simply [asked] if her daughter could speak properly with her piercing".

Former royal butler, Grant Harrold, said that Zara's new style addition definitely made an impact on him. He said: "She was the very first royal I met. In Scotland I was working and it was the weekend.

"It was all in the press that she had her tongue pierced and it was so exciting because when she was speaking to us, I suddenly saw the tongue piercing and I was like 'Oh, I've seen it'."

Princess Anne is currently recovering from an accident where it is believed she has been kicked or headbutted by a horse on her Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement: "The Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening.

"Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery.

"The King has been kept closely informed and joins the whole Royal Family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to The Princess for a speedy recovery.".

Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence said Princess Anne is "recovering slowly" as he left a Bristol hospital after visiting his wife.

Her husband spent two-and-a-half hours with Anne yesterday, Wednesday, June 26, and left the main Brunel building at Southmead Hospital just before 2pm.
