KATE GARRAWAY'S HEARTACHE AS SHE EXPLAINS WHY SHE ISN'T VOTING AFTER DEREK'S DEATH

Kate Garraway, the Good Morning Britain host, confessed that she won't be casting her vote this Thursday, July 4, after discovering her late husband's polling card.

While presenting the ITV breakfast show alongside Adil Ray, the duo announced a significant alteration to their programme.

However, during a conversation with election expert Alex Thomas, Kate revealed that neither she nor her 18 year old daughter Darcey would be able to vote as they hadn't received their polling cards - sadly, her late husband Derek Draper had.

She initially asked: "What happens if you haven't registered to vote?" before explaining her situation: "I'm in a situation, I was very excited, I thought my daughter, who has turned 18 recently, and I could go and vote for the first time."

Derek, a former lobbyist, tragically lost his battle against Covid-19 earlier this year at the age of 56.

Referring to their teenage daughter, Kate continued: "She's now saying she doesn't think she did properly register," reports the Mirror.

"Polling cards have come through the door, I haven't had one for myself or her. The only polling card that's come through the door is for Derek, sadly, who's passed away. Is there any way around that situation?"

Regrettably, Alex Thomas informed her that it was too late for either her or Darcey to register to vote this Thursday.

Earlier on the show, as the nation geared up for polling stations to open at the crack of dawn this Thursday at 7am, Kate alongside Adil declared their show a "politics-free zone" in line with broadcasting rules.

"You might be wondering why on the day of the election - because it is polling day today, by the way - we're not actually discussing the issues related to the general election or interviewing the people that have a position on the issues," Kate began.

She continued: "We can't talk about the issues because we have to follow certain broadcasting rules which means today's Good Morning Britain is a 'politics-free zone.'"
