KATE GARRAWAY HALTS GOOD MORNING BRITAIN FOR 'BREAKING NEWS' - BUT FANS AREN'T HAPPY

Kate Garraway and Adil Ray of Good Morning Britain were thrown into the thick of election reporting as polls opened, shaking up the usual programme format with Kate breaking in: "We have some breaking news. Polling stations are now open."

But things took a turn toward the unusual when Adil had to inform viewers that due to certain broadcasting restrictions, they couldn't delve deeply into the day's politics. Adil advised that the focus would instead be on voter participation and the new ID requirements.

Election coverage often limits broadcasters on what they can discuss, prompting Kate to clarify the situation: "You might be wondering why, on the day of the election because it is polling day today! we're not actually discussing the issues related to the general election, or indeed interviewing people that might have a position on those issues."

The presenters addressed the show's unique approach: "We can talk about what to do, can't we, in terms of polling. We can't talk about the issues because we have to follow certain broadcasting rules, which means today's Good Morning Britain is a politics-free zone."

Amid the quips and banter, with Adil saying: "Some people might enjoy! " and Kate echoing: "Some people might be delighted!"

The social media brigade, however, was having none of it. Viewers poked fun at GMB calling poll openings 'breaking news', with online comments such as: "How is a polling station being open 'breaking news'? Get a grip #GMB! " and another jesting: "Breaking news Tesco Extra is now open!"

Kate Garraway recently revealed on air that she was thrown off her game by a hair mishap, shortly after making the serious announcement that junior doctors in England had started a five-day strike towards the end of June 2024. While presenting, Kate informed viewers with help from Nitya Rajan: "And that is our breaking news story."

The seasoned broadcaster became visibly "flustered" when she couldn't manage her unruly hair while trying to focus on the autocue. In a moment of candidness, Kate held up her hands exasperatingly and confessed: "I was just having a hair crisis! I'm going to be honest."

In an act of quick camaraderie, co-host Adil Ray jumped into action, reassuring Kate as he tended to her issue, remarking: "Let me just check this hair now." After a swift intervention and smoothing out her locks, he concluded affirmatively: "Yeah, it looks like it normally does."

Recomposing herself, Kate remarked: "People are saying my hair looks sweaty and it flustered me for a moment. But I'm back, with news and politics now!"
