TOM KERRIDGE FANS BOYCOTT CHEF OVER HIS PRONUNCIATION OF 'SCONES'

Brits have always been divided by the very different ways to pronounce the word 'scone'.

However, popular chef Tom Kerridge has angered fans over his pronunciation, with some going as far as to boycott him over it.

Usually, northerners pronounce it to rhyme with 'gone' and say 'skon', while southerners make it rhyme with 'bone' and say 'skone'. It really shows the vast contrast in speech across the UK.

But Tom has left fans up in arms by insisting that there's only one way to say it. Sharing one of his summer recipes, he whipped up a portion which he accompanied with beer-poached strawberries.

While demonstrating the recipe inspired by Wimbledon, Kerridge, 50, said: "You've all had them before, you all think they are lovely. It is scones. That is a 'skone'. Not a 'skon'."

He then asked if anyone disagreed with it and added: "Anybody else disagree with that? Just go and watch somebody else's video."

This angered fans, who left furious comments under his video. One person fumed: "Scone as in gone - Queen's English. I will now go watch someone else. Unfortunately, you are deleted as are all your books."

A second said: "Skon. There's no 'a' in it. I bet you say 'Barth' as well, chef?" However another wasn't so harsh and said: "Scone as in gone, but I'll forgive your mispronunciation."

Another debate which divides foodies on the British treat is whether you put jam on first or if you put cream first. One fan said: "Definitely a scone, not a scon, but I’m afraid jam first for me," and another said: "Cream first."

It's not the first time the celebrity chef angered fans, as he caused an uproar over his pricey fish and chips. Foodies slammed his £32 dish, which people said was "ridiculously overpriced".

Tom claims that the dish, which can be purchased at central London's Kerridge's Bar and Grill on the a la carte menu, is always a "crowd pleaser" as it comes with chips, pease pudding, posh mushy peas and curry sauce. However, people have questioned whether the portion is big enough for the whopping price tag, with one critic saying the portion is so small it makes the fork look big. Other critics have said it's "far too expensive" and is "just battered fish".
