VERA STAR ANNOUNCES BRAND NEW ROLE AFTER SHOCK EXIT FROM ITV DRAMA

A Vera star has announced a brand new role following his exit from the ITV show.

Channel 5 have announced the brand-new drama, The Au Pair, which will star the likes of Sir David Suchet - best known for playing the iconic Poirot - and Beyond Paradise and Not Going Out star Sally Bretton.

However, Vera fans will see a famous face on the screen as Kenny Doughty - who Vera fans will know as her much-loved sidekick Aiden Healy - will also star in the new drama, which describes itself as a show that "delves deep into the complexities of family, trust and hidden truths, against the backdrop of the picturesque British countryside".

The new series will no doubt grip fans as it is described by producers as: "The Au Pair follows Zoe Dalton (Sally Bretton), who seems to have it all - a successful husband Chris (Kenny Doughty), two adorable stepchildren, Amber and Noah, a thriving tailoring business and a gorgeous countryside home in a picturesque English town. However, all is not as it seems as she experiences marital issues and pressure mounts when her diabetic father, George (David Suchet), moves in next door. Zoe reluctantly agrees to hire an Au Pair; in comes Sandrine (Ludmilla Makowski), a beguiling young French woman which triggers an unsettling shift in the household, as instincts and suspicions arise, hinting at hidden agendas and long-concealed truths."

Kenny quit Vera just a few months ago and made his final appearance in the show's Christmas special in 2023. Speaking about his exit, Brenda Blethyn - who is also quitting her role - said at the time: "I was sad when he said he was leaving. He’s my mate. We had filmed eight series together. I’ve never laughed so hard as I did with Kenny Doughty. Vera and Aiden became very close over the years.

"It’s not surprising because she spent most of her time with him at work. And it was a good working relationship between the two characters as well as liking each other. Kenny and I kept each other company between scenes during long days, weeks and months of filming. As well as at weekends because we were both working away from home. It’s total commitment. Kenny was also my neighbour in the apartments where I stay during filming. I’ll miss him and wish him well."
