*Warning - The following article contains spoilers from The Boys season 4, episode 5.*

The fifth instalment of The Boys season 4 packed in a lot of action - as well as some truly heartbreaking scenes.

There were plenty laughs, but plenty of tears as well, with Simon Pegg managing to steal the show - even amid scenes of deadly flying sheep descending on the gang.

Episode 5 of the Amazon Prime series, aptly entitled Beware The Jabberwock, My Son, saw one major player return after spending some time imprisoned. Meanwhile, another character was savagely sacrificed in order for others to stay in the game.

Need a recap on all the major plot points from this week? We've got you covered but be warned - there are major spoilers ahead!

Hughie's dad Hugh Sr meets a hauntingly tragic end

Simon Pegg steals the show in heartwrenching scenes that show the effect compound V has on Hugh Sr when his son Hughie Campbell obtains some in order to save his dad's life.

Last episode, Hughie decided not to go through with giving his dad the V - as he didn't know what the side effects would be - but his absent mother Daphne Campbell steps in to give her estranged husband the drug anyway.

At first, everything appears cheery when Hughie's dad wakes up seemingly back to his old self.

However, soon things are plunged into chaos as Hugh Sr accidentally goes on a killing spree with his new-found powers while he is still in a confused state from the stroke.

In a tear-jerking final scene, Hughie is able to get through to his dad and ends up saying goodbye as he sends him to sleep forever.

Stan Edgar returns just in time to face some killer sheep

Desperate to get their hands on a virus that can kill Supes, Butcher, Starlight, MM, Frenchie, and Kimiko liberate former Vought boss Stan Edgar so that he can help them find Victoria Neuman's secret laboratory.

There, they discover Neuman's daughter Zoe's father, the lab tech who has helped develop the virus.

However, during their trip to the farmland where animals are being tested, they make the terrifying discovery that compound V has leaked into the water system, creating a race of suped-up, blood-thirsty chickens and sheep.

This leads to a hilarious and gory high-speed chase through the farm as the gang attempts to escape carnivorous flying barnyard animals.

Eventually, they use the last remaining vial of the virus to take the animals down and secure their safety, but Neuman is devastated to learn that Zoe's father died in the attack, as she is shown his severed leg at the scene.

However, it is later revealed that Billy Butcher hacked off the leg himself, as he and Joe Kessler plan to keep the scientist a prisoner and force him to re-create the Supe-killing virus.

Cameron Coleman is wrongfully accused as The Seven's mole

Vought news anchor Cameron Coleman chose the wrong woman to mess with when he told CEO Ashley Barrett that he didn't want to sleep with her because she had "no power".

While Cameron has long been a friend of Vought and The Seven, regularly spinning propaganda to millions on their behalf, he is accused of betraying them.

Sister Sage has long been after a mole within the group and - after the real mole A-Train makes Ashley complicit by making himself known to her - the CEO frames her former lover to save their skins.

After Cameron is wrongly identified, Homelander orders his fellow Supes to carry out their revenge, which leads to a brutal and presumably fatal beating.

The Boys Season 4, episode 6 entitled Dirty Business will air Thursday, July 4, 2024 on Amazon Prime Video.
