MONTY DON AND DAVID DOMONEY'S 'RIVALRY' ADDRESSED AS HORTICULTURALISTS FACE OFF

As nature shows become more and more popular, we've also seen the rise of horticulturalists making it big on television by fronting their very own shows for big broadcasters.

One prominent figure in the world of television horticulturalists is David Domoney, who is best known for his work on ITV shows such as Love Your Garden with Alan Titchmarsh.

While on the BBC, Monty Don is considered an icon as he has starred on Gardeners' World since 2002, making it 22 years of being on the hit show.

During an interaction in November last year, David, 60, addressed whether there's any rivalry with Monty, 68, as he set the record straight.

He explained: "There's different ones, obviously Gardeners World is BBC, but I present on ITV, so the three shows that I do, it's a triangle between prime time and weekends, there's a different audience of course and that's the magic of it."

David, who specialises in plants, focuses on his own aim in the game, which is to engage others about the benefits of nature.

He went on to say all those involved in the TV world of gardening share the same enjoyment, much like footballers and cooks, and don't tend to see each other, unless it's at an event such as the ITV Palooza.

David's Love Your Garden's co-star Alan knows all too well about sharing his expertise on both BBC and ITV shows.

He hosted BBC's Gardeners' World for seven years until he passed the baton onto Monty in 2003.

Alan still remains as the show's main presenter, following a three-year break due to illness in 2008.

At the time of leaving, Alan said: "I'm really sad to be leaving Gardeners' World, but when I joined back in 1995 I never really expected to be presenting it for so many years and now it feels right to move off onto other programmes and give someone else a chance.

"I'm immensely proud to have been part of Gardeners' World heritage alongside greats like Percy Thrower and Geoff Hamilton and I'm sure the show will go from strength to strength."

In 2017, Alan and Monty reunited to recall their greatest memories on the programme so far for the show's magazine YouTube channel.
