JOSH BROLIN'S SERIES OUTER RANGE IS CANCELED BY AMAZON PRIME VIDEO AFTER TWO SEASONS

It's the end of the line for Outer Range on Amazon Prime Video.

The series starring Josh Brolin, which blended the classic Western with a sci-fi mystery, has been canceled by the streaming giant less than two months after the release of season two, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday.

After the news broke, Brolin took to Instagram to express heartbreak over Amazon's decision before thanking the show's 'uber-loyal fans.'

'As much of a faux pas as I feel that it is for Amazon Prime to cancel our beloved show Outer Range, it will never minimize or detract from how great this idea, this diamond cast, and the hardest working crew I've ever encountered have been,' began Brolin, who included a photo of the Outer Range set.

He then gave a nod of respect to Charles Murray, who took over as series showrunner after season one.

'As for creative integrity: 2-0. We win. Thank you Charles Murray especially for being willing to build upon the wave machine that was so faultily granted you. Kudos,' Brolin wrote.

The 56-year-old leading man concluded his statement by expressing gratitude to the viewers who've supported the series since day one.

'And thank you most of all to the uber-loyal fans. Along with No Country For Old Men and Sicario, Outer Range is a title among kings I am approached with most,' he wrote.

'We appreciate you right back. See you...elsewhere.'

Set in Wyoming, Brolin plays Royal Abbott, a rancher who is fighting for both his land and his family after the discovery of a mysterious black void in the pasture of his property.

This comes in the wake of the arrival of a female drifter, Autumn (Imogen Poots), who has a connection to the Abbott ranch, as well as the disappearance of the Abbott's daughter-in-law Rebecca.

The family is pushed further to the brink when a rival family, the Tillersons, tries to take over their land.

Along with Brolin and Poots, the cast also features Lili Taylor, Tom Pelphrey, Tamara Podemski, Lewis Pullman, Noah Reid, Shaun Sipos, Olive Elise Abercrombie, Isabel Arraiza and Will Patton.

Outer Range premiered on Prime Video in April 2022 and scored a season two pickup in October of that year.

The series also changed showrunners at that time, with Murray taking over for Zev Borow.

Outer Range seemed to do well with critics, viewers and Nielson ratings so the cancelation comes as somewhat of a surprise, according to Forbes.

Amazon does not release viewership information for their shows, though Outer Range did make it into the Nielsen Top 10 original streaming rankings, peaking at the number three spot in the week after its premiere.

The show also received solid reviews from critics, with the two seasons averaging an 85% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Along with playing the role of the leading man of the series, Brolin also made his directorial debut when he helmed the sixth episode of season two titled, Do-Si-Do.
