EASTENDERS CHRISSIE WATTS' RETURN STORYLINE ‘EXPOSED' - AND SHARON SHOULD BE WORRIED
EastEnders enthusiasts believe they have deciphered the reason behind the return of soap legend Chrissie Watts.
This week, it was confirmed that Chrissie, played by Tracy-Ann Oberman, is set to make a comeback to the iconic square, nearly two decades after her dramatic departure. Chrissie was a regular character on the soap from 2004 to 2005.
As the spouse of Dirty Den, portrayed by Leslie Grantham, Chrissie quickly became a fan favourite and appeared in 218 episodes. During her time in Albert Square, Chrissie served as the landlady of the Queen Vic and was involved in numerous storylines - but she is most notably remembered for murdering her husband Den.
Chrissie left the soap in 2015 when she was incarcerated for Den's murder. However, 19 years later, the soap icon is set to return to Walford for a brief period later this year.
Yet, ahead of her reappearance, there is widespread speculation about what prompts her return - and fans suspect it has something to do with her adversary Sharon Watts, played by Letitia Dean, reports the Daily Star.
In 2005, Chrissie was at the centre of one of "the programme's biggest and most high-profile narratives" when she killed her husband, who was also Sharon's father, Den, in self-defence during the special 20th-anniversary episode.
Chrissie, along with Sam Mitchell and Zoe Slater, confronted evil Den, resulting in his brutal death. The episode was viewed by 14.34 million people - with "almost 60% of possible viewers" tuning in to witness Chrissie killing Den.
Sharon's entanglement in the gripping 'The Six' plotline, which saw her and a group of Walford women conceal the murder of her betrothed Keanu Taylor (portrayed by Danny Walters) over the festive season, has EastEnders aficionados abuzz with speculation.
Social media is rife with theories that Chrissie could return to blow the lid off 'The Six' and exact vengeance on Sharon.
One viewer speculated on X, previously known as Twitter: "I am predicting a storyline between Sharon and Chrissie and something to do with #TheSix storyline?" They drew parallels between past events, noting, "After all, they are both so similar after the deaths of Den and Keanu were very similar."
Another chimed in: "I reckon Chrissie will be the one to expose the six and take revenge on Sharon!"
A third added their voice, writing: "There certainly seems to be some story overlap."
And yet another fan pondered a dramatic twist: "My cruel theory is her and Sharon will eventually see eye to eye and makeup. I also think she's going to have some involvement in the Six storyline with knowing about what happened to Keanu, which could be deadly I fear."
