BBC CANCELS BREAKFAST AND MORNING LIVE AS HUGE CHANGES TO TV SCHEDULE CONFIRMED

BBC bosses have decided to axe a slew of popular shows this Friday.

On July 5, there will be a huge change to the usual schedule to make way for a full day of Election coverage. BBC One will undergo a major reshuffle as almost all its morning and daytime programmes are dropped. Jon Kay and Sally Nugent usually kick off the day with a roundup of national and international news on BBC Breakfast at 6am before handing over to BBC Morning Live's Gethin Jones, Helen Skelton, and Michelle Ackerley three and a half hours later.

The weekday magazine programme then continues until 10:45am when Scam Interceptors takes over for a 30-minute slot before the BBC's long-standing property show Home Under the Hammer airs with presenters Martin Roberts, Dion Dublin, and Martel Maxwell in charge.

However, none of these crowd favourites will be aired on Friday as the network updates the UK on the results of the General Election. According to the Radio Times television guide, coverage will begin on Thursday, July 4 at 9:55pm on the channel, meaning that BBC News At Ten has also been removed from the schedules.

Election coverage then continues from 9:55pm on Thursday until 4:30pm on Friday before BBC One will broadcast the latest from Wimbledon. This will be followed by the 6pm news and then Portugal v France at 7:30pm as the Euros 2024 continues. The election and summer sports coverage have resulted in the cancellation of popular shows like Animal Park, Bargain Hunt, and Escape To The Country this Friday.

Furthermore, BBC's The One Show, which usually graces our screens weekdays at 7pm, has been absent all week. Alex Jones, the show's host, revealed last Friday that the programme would be taking a hiatus, assuring viewers that The One Show would be back on Monday, July 8.

Meanwhile, EastEnders is also facing disruptions this week, although it will continue to air in different timeslots on BBC Two instead of its regular slot on BBC One. BBC are not the only ones shaking up their usual schedules for the election. Tom Bradby will be anchoring ITV ’s live coverage. The News at 10 presenter will be joined by ex-Scottish National Party leader Nicola Sturgeon in the studio, along with George Osborne and Ed Balls - hosts of the Political Currency podcast.

Their live coverage will roll through to Friday, when at 6am Good Morning Britain star Susanna Reid will join colleague Ed Balls for a special edition of the show, along with the Mirror’s very own Kevin Maguire, journalist Andrew Pierce, Labour veterans Harriet Harman and Gordon Brown, and Boris Johnson ’s ex-comms guru Guto Harri.

After GMB, election debate host Julie Etchingham will take over the live coverage as constituencies continue to send in their results, with a team of ITV political correspondents placed in Westminster and Downing Street to share their findings. It means Lorriane, This Morning and Loose Women will all be off-air.
