GLASTONBURY 2024: BBC VIEWERS BAFFLED BY CHRIS MARTIN'S BIZARRE NEW ACCENT AS COLDPLAY HEADLINE

Chris Martin fans have been left puzzled by his accent - as the singer and his band Coldplay headlined Glastonbury Festival.

Coldplay are breaking records with their fifth headline set at the festival at Worthy Farm. As Chris and the group kicked off their set, fans were left confused by his apparent American accent.

Taking to social media, fans made their feelings clear as Chris talked to the huge crowd during breaks between the song, with the set having so far included hits like Yellow, Viva La Vida and Paradise.

One wrote: "What the hell accent is that, Chris Martin? #coldplay #glastonbury #godawful," as a second added: "At what point did Chris Martin’s accent change into the voice of a c**p 1970’s TV detective? #Glastonbury."

A third penned: "What's this weird faux American accent he's doing? #Glastonbury," as a fourth wrote: "Chris Martin’s accent is strange now when he talks. He does live in Malibu, California though which is probably the reason. #glastonbury." A fifth shared: "Chris Martins American accent is so bad," with a sixth writing: "Why is Chris Martin speaking in an American accent?" A seventh wrote: "I don’t care how much you like his music, when he affects that ridiculous American accent with a baby voice, Chris Martin needs to be cancelled."

Ahead of their Glastonbury headline slot, Chris sat down to discuss Coldplay's success over the years. Asked his favourite song and the one he's most proud of, he said: "I have a definite answer for you. I don’t think it’s the best, but for me, it’s Fix You. Because it’s so unlikely that that song would have come out of that period. The rest of that album [X&Y] I like, but I don’t think it’s great. Whereas that song… it’s the best one because it almost single-handedly got us through a really difficult two years. You could say it’s too soft or whatever, but… it does exactly what it says on the tin. Even when I’m singing it, by the time I get to the end, I’m thinking, 'I like this.'"
